about

The references in this song are all just metaphors for my own desire to leave a mark in this life and my hunt for that "white whale" of true success. But also sometimes wondering if ambition isn't anything but a curse and either way, I might have no choice and maybe none if this matters. It was a real feeling I felt and I transferred it to just few chords.
------
I reference a few peices of mythology in this tune
1st verse and chorus
Prometheus gifting mankind fire
"Technology only made it easier to kill each other"
2nd verse
Shelley's "Ozymandias"
"Look on my works ye might and despair"
"The only thing that stands the test of time is the works of the artist"
Last verse
"Moby dick hunting the white whale"

" The fear that our need to constantly innovate will eventually kill us"

lyrics

I pulled a pearl from the ocean
& my ship it gleamed in the sun.
looked over the edge of the earth.
it was black, oblivion.

I didn't scream to no one
I didn't scream to a soul.
Maybe Prometheus
Should've left us alone.

(Chorus)
When the fire was found
We moved from the cave
to the sawn-off shot gun.
killed everything in our wake
ourselves and our sons

"Look on my works Ye' Mighty and despair."
The Kingdom's gone,
But the art lives on.
"Lone and level sands stretch far away"
to no one.

No prayers preserve this tyrants iron hands
the earth had moved on
The dark tower called upon
The dark tower called upon

(Chorus)
When the fire was found
We moved from the cave
To the sawn off shot gun
Killed every thing in our wake
Ourselves and our sons

Navigating my ship
Through icy waters.
Black rain fell
Like the hand of god.
Harpoon in my hooked hand,
met eyes with the devil.
That Behemoth I chased for so long.
My crusty old eyes,
My beard drenched in rain.
Sweat stung my wounds,
Fire in my veins.
My aim was true.
That Wicked whale pulled me to my doom

We forever sealed in an icy black tomb.

(Chorus)
When the fire was found
We moved from the cave
To the sawn-off shot gun
Killed everything in our wake
Ourselves and our sons
